Author Jil Ross wrote the Shenanigans Series ™ after running into a dilemma finding quality, humorous, educating, thought provoking and entertaining books for her own children. The principal characters are African American. The target reading age for this series is between 7 and 11 years old, depending on the reading skill level. The books are chapter books with illustrations at the beginning of each chapter.

All of the stories in the Shenanigans Series ™ include a spelling guide and question that can be used for written assignments, group discussions and/or thought provoking activities. Many teachers, educators and parents who home school, find this book feature very useful.

In each of the stories, one or both of the children makes a wrong decision. They learn the consequences of that ‘bad decision,’ but more importantly, they learn how to ‘right their wrong’.

At a day and age when it seems ‘anything goes,’ this series shows a clear picture of the ramifications that might come as a result of the choices that we make. And although the storyline is humorous, the reinforcement (gentle, but firm), still exists.

The stories deal with moral issues, issues of integrity and ‘doing the right thing.’ The characters own up to their choices. And their loved ones’ don’t throw them away because they mess-up. Instead, the adults; parent, they teach, they redirect and they lead by example.
